This encyclopedia focuses “on the mythic and spiritual aspects of erotic and gendered experience” in different religions
and spiritual practices. Arranged alphabetically, entries are on important symbols, mythical and real individuals, as well
as different rituals in various beliefs that have homosexual, bisexual, and/or transgender undertones.
Spiritual practices discussed include Buddhism, Christianity, Women’s Spirituality, and Queer Spirit.

This two-volume set provides biographical information on over 600 female artists “from the Middle Ages to the present day,
in countries throughout Europe as well as America and Australia." Includes over “20 key survey essays.” Emphasis is
historic rather than contemporary. Excludes women born after 1945, architects and interior, garden, and fashion designers. Also profiles less-familiar amateur artists and artists working in the decorative arts.

Divided into four sections, the first section examines gender theory and feminist epistemology, and provides a
comparison of genders. Section two discusses topics such as comparative gender stratification, poverty, gender movements,
gender organizations and gender in cultures. The third section addresses topics such as gender socialization, gender and
social roles, and gender violence and harassment. The fourth section looks at the relationship between gender and social
institutions.

The book is divided into two parts. Part one is further divided into three major time periods,

“Newspaper Sources of Regional Gay and Lesbian History,” which lists different newspaper titles of importance to the
movement that can be used as primary sources.

The purpose of this source is to “convey a sense of the history of the study of homosexual behavior—which goes back to
the ancient Greeks.” 4858 citations are included. Divided into sections by subject,
each section includes an introduction and an annotated list of works for that topic. Includes works in other languages
and excludes all creative works of fiction. Though somewhat dated, it is a valuable source for historical research.

“includes all the significant material published in English during the 6 years from 1970 to 1975.”
Homosexuality Bibliography. Second Supplement, 1976-1982. (Education Ref, 016.3014243 P22HSUP.2) covers 1976 to 1982.
Both supplements are arranged the same way as the original.

An extensive bibliography of nonfiction resources is also included.

bibliographies compiled on the author; and critical sources. An appendix listing various gay book awards and their

“Highlights the careers of women playwrights who are writing from and about the ethic and cultural diversity in America
in the 1990s.” Focus is on contemporary women, and includes women who have written since 1970. Lesbian writers are
self-identified. Divided into two parts, part one provides four introductory essays on minority women.
One of the chapters is dedicated to lesbian playwrights. Part two is an alphabetical listing of women playwrights.
In order to identify the lesbian writers included in part two, readers need to consult appendix one, which lists
playwrights by cultural/ethnic groups. Each entry in part two includes a short biography; play descriptions;
selected production history; play availability, i.e. a bibliography of possible sources where the plays can be located;
awards; and descriptive and critical responses.
