Main stacks access for undergrads

As an Undergraduate Student, you CAN go into the Main Stacks of the Main Library building, next door to the Undergrad Library. Here's a list of who can do it:

  • All Undergraduate students can request access to the bookstacks at the Circulation Desk (2nd Floor Main Library).
  • Undergraduate student members of the UIUC Library Friends upon presentation of their Library Friends membership card and a valid UIUC I-Card.
  • Members of the following clubs and organizations whose names are submitted in writing to the Circulation Librarian:
    1. BA/MBA Program
    2. Chancellor's Scholars (also known as Campus Honors Program)
    3. Cohn Scholars
    4. Debate (Speech) Team
    5. James Scholars
    6. LAS Individual Plans of Study
    7. Minority Association of Future Attorneys (MAFA)
    8. Pre-Law Club
    9. Psychology Honor Students

NOTE: Access to the Bookstacks is NOT automatically guaranteed to all University-sponsored clubs. A written request explaining the needs of the group for Bookstacks must be submitted to the Circulation Librarian for approval.

  • Undergraduate students whose professor requests Bookstacks access for all students enrolled in a class he/she is teaching.
  • Undergraduate student employees of the UIUC Library
