Where to find local and regional information
Locating information in local and regional sources can be challenging, as this information may not be included in the databases we often rely on when beginning our research. The sources included on this page will help you search for and locate information included in local and regional news sources.
Additional campus information is included in both the University Archives and the Student Life and Culture Center.
Local and Regional Newspapers
The following database links provide access to local and regional newspapers.
- Access World News
- News Gazette (Champaign-Urbana)
- State Journal-Register (Springfield)
- Herald-Review (Decatur)

To search other Illinois newspapers via Access World News:
- Enter Access World News
- Click on North America
- Click on United States
- Click on Illinois
- Select desired newspapers to search by checking the boxes to the left of the newspaper titles
College Newspapers
Campus papers are included in Lexis-Nexis. To access the Daily Illini:
- Enter Lexis-Nexis
- Enter your subject and "daily illini" in Enter Search Terms
- Be sure to select University Wire in the Select Sources
- Specify Date, if desired
- Click Search
To search other campus newspapers, follow the above instructions and enter the paper name and topic. You may also search all University Wire sources by simply entering a topic.
Local Archives
- The University Archives includes over 17,000 cubic feet of office records, publications, and personal papers from the University and the Urbana-Champaign campus.
- The Student Life and Culture Archival Program of the University Archives includes collections relating to student life and culture on the national level and at the University of Illinois.
- The Illinois Historical Survey contains material on Illinois and local history, in addition to other collections.
