Finding books by title or author name

Use the suggestions below to search for a book when you know the title or author name, or some combination of words from the title or author name.

1. Go to the Online Library Catalog.

2. Use a Quick Search if you know the full title or the author’s full name. Enter the author or title words in the Search for: box (left side) and select the appropriate option in the Search by box.

3. Use the Advanced Search if you don’t know the full title or the author’s full name, as it allows you to search using multiple small pieces of information at the same time.
For example, searching “Tolkien” as author words AND “rings” as title words will find J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Subject words may also be used. Searching “Crichton” as author words AND “dinosaurs as subject words will find Michael Crichton’s novel Jurassic Park.

4. When you find a book you are interested in, click on the title link and scroll down the page to determine which library or libraries on campus own the book and note whether or not the book is available.
If a book is not available or is checked out, click on the Find copies in other I-Share libraries link to request a copy from another library.
