Find a specific magazine, journal, newspaper, or article

Note: If you are looking for a particular article in print format, you must have the following information in order to find it: Name of Journal, Volume number, Issue, Date of publication, and pages.

Example: Journal of the American Medical Association, Vol. 294(1) 2004, p. 16-45.

Print Journals

1. Go to the Online Library Catalog.

2. Use a Quick Search by entering the title of the magazine, journal, or newspaper (for example, New York Times or Journal of the American Medical Association) in the Search for box and selecting "Start of journal/magazine title" in the Search by box. Click the Search box.

3. If the quick search is not successful use the Advanced Search. Enter known words from the title of the magazine, journal, or newspaper in the Search for box and choose select either “title words” or “series title” in the Search by box.
For example, a search of “American society information” as “title words” brings up a set of results including The Journal of the American Society for Information Science.

4. When you locate the magazine, journal, or newspaper click on the title and note which library/libraries on campus own this title, its call number, and a list of the dates or volume numbers owned. Go to the appropriate library to view and/or copy the periodical.
A big red "e" next to a title, indicates that there is some electronic access to that title (it may be that you can read only the most recent issue online, or you may have access to years' worth of issues). Click the link provided in such cases to see what is available. If the link does not work or indicates that electronic access is not available, try searching for the title directly on the Online Research Resources page.
