What is it?
  • Business Source Premier is one of the many databases provided by EBSCO Host. It identifies articles from scholarly journals, trade periodicals, books and newspapers in business-related areas..
Why use it?
  • This database has a wealth of information related to business, with many of the articles available full-text online.
Which subjects is this database best for?
  • Business Source Premier focuses on business-related disciplines, specifically management, marketing, accounting, finance and economics.
Getting to it
  • A direct link is available from the Undergraduate Library Find Articles page under the Business heading. Other libraries may provide links as well. You can search for the database by title from the Online Research Resources page.
  • If you are off-campus you can follow the same links. You will be asked to provide you NetID and password to enter the database.
Searching

Advanced Search- default search:

  • Enter search word(s) or phrases in search boxes provided.
  • If you are searching a known word from the article title, author name, company name or periodical title select the desired field from the Default Fields drop-down menu.
Tips and tricks to focus and improve your search

Limit your results in the lower part of the search screen:

  • Scholarly journals
  • Specific publication dates or date ranges
  • Specific publication types - for example: editorials, case studies, or working papers
  • Specific companies (by name or ticker symbol) and industries (by NAICS code)
Other cool features
  • Company Profiles from Datamonitor (market research firm): accessible from the Company Profiles link at the top of the screen
  • Country Profiles: reports by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), ICON Group and CountryWatch - search for the country as a subject heading, then narrow by clicking on the Country Reports link
Too FEW results?
  • Use fewer words in your search.
  • Try alternative words that describe your subject.
  • Double check the database content to make sure you are searching in the best database for your topic.
Too MANY results?
  • Use additional words in your search to help focus on specific aspects of your topic.
  • Look at the records for articles in your search that look good. Examine the Subject Headings associated with these articles and repeat your search using the subject headings. You can also use the Thesaurus near the top of the screen to find other relevant Subject Headings.
Finding the articles

Look at the top of an individual record for the following links:

  • PDF Full Text - Click on the link to open a scanned copy of the article. This will be the closest option to a print copy.
  • HTML Full Text - Click on the link to view the article text in HTML format. Most often this format will not provide charts, graphs, or photos included in the article.
  • Linked Full Text - Click on the link to view the article from another source.
  • discover links - appearing at the bottom of an individual record, these are included for sources that are not full text in Business Source Premier and provide links to databases with full-text coverage of a periodical.

  • From the search results screen, click the checkbox to the left of a citation for each article of interest.
  • Scroll to the top of the page and click on Save to Favorite List.
  • Click on the Favorite Documents link on the left. From here you can check article and email them by clicking on the E-mail Marked Records link at the top of the list.
