Dialup Access for UIUC Library Staff

Dialup Access Help Page

(Back to Remote Access Help Page)

Dialup access is for Library Staff who must connect to the UIUC network via a modem because they cannot connect to the UIUC network via a wired network (the recommend method of connection). We assume these staff members are doing UIUC library-related work and have library-owned equipment (see What if you are not using library-owned equipment?).

For staff members who are in the 217 area code location, we recommend you use CITES Dialup Access by dialing a local number specified on the CITES Dialup Access page. You then can connect to the UIUC network and access your G and H drives (see UIUCLIBRARY Server Resourcecs).

Staff members who are outside the 217 area code should also connect to the CITES Dialup Access. Instead of making a long distance call, though, you can use one of the following:

  1. an ISP service provider service and make a local or 800-number call,
  2. CITES 800-number access (for which you must signup before you use the service), or
  3. a calling card.

We recommend you use your UIUC Library Internet-Connection Calling Card (if you have one) since this choice is reliable and the most cost-effective. To use this calling card, please follow these Calling Card Directions.

For help with installing, configuring, and using the Dialup connections, press Dialup Setup. (Note: Before using the calling card, you will need to do some additional setup.)
