Procedure to provide access to third floor spaces in the event the Blue Elevator is down

Should there be a service interruption for the blue elevator (planned or unplanned), we will:

  • Direct patrons to the second floor Main Circulation Desk for assistance (using the orange elevator to access the second floor).
  • Central Access Services staff will escort patrons through the stacks to the nearest appropriate elevator and then through the locked door into the third floor corridor.
  • Employees or patrons in need of assistance will call the appropriate circulation desk phone in order to be escorted off the third floor and back through the stacks as needed.

Signage is pending and will include the correct numbers to call:

  • Daytime until 5:00 pm: 217-333-8400
  • After 5:00 pm and on weekends: 217-244-0732

Building access:

  • During regular business hours M-F we may want to open up the staff only area of the basement so that patrons entering the building from the parking lot can reach the second floor.
  • Evenings and weekends when there are no staff in those areas the only access would be from the Gallery to get to the orange elevator.
