Services
Modern Languages and Linguistics created an electronic new books page which provides a comprehensive listing as well as a select listing featuring table of contents and scanned image of covers
MLL made major enhancements to its subject-based web pages
Biotechnology has improved the Online Research Resources site by adding descriptions for the Indexes and Abstracts, and adding dates of coverage for many journals
Business and Economics made an inventory of database guides and manuals maintained in the staff room and computer room
BEL documented all Bloomberg shortcuts in Excel and created a binder of information on the Bloomberg certification process
City Planning and Landscape Architecture Developed an annotated print journal list website- http://www.library.uiuc.edu/cpx/links/UP199resources.htm
Education and Social Science implemented a web-based ready reference database – http://www.library.uiuc.edu/edx/roloedx/
ESSL developed Social Work Research at a Distance site as a resource for social work students enrolled in the off-campus satellite program
ESSL developed a Children’s Literature blog using the library’s newly available Movable Type blogging application
ESSL added a news section to their website to inform patrons of new resources and other things going on in the library
ESSL developed web-based tutorials for the ERIC database
Global Studies created a blog for news and book reviews – “Generally Noted”
GSL created a web resource for remote learners in the Master of Education in Global Studies Program
Labor and Industrial Relations created a blog – “LaborLine News”
Library and Information Science developed a packet of instructional materials for incoming LEEP students and a new workshop focused on monitoring “hot” public policy issues in LIS
Collections was part of a core group of CIC institutions that developed a Native American resource inventory
Archives is completing a pilot project to build a database portal for finding aid entry that generates public finding aids, EAD documents and MARC records
Reference and Undergrad started offering reference via Instant Messaging
Map and Geography cataloged 700 records to make web indexes of aerial photography available
Map and Geo facilitated scanning by DIMTI of over 300 late 19th and early 20th century Mississippi River charts
Slavic and East European created a blog “Slavic Reverence Service Resources for Federal Employees”

Music hosted the Paul Revere Awards display from the Music Publishers Association
Afro-Americana mounted exhibits on Ray Charles, Juneteenth, Wangari Maathi (Nobel Peace Prize winner), and Contemporary Kenyan writers
Asian mounted the “Year of Asia” exhibit
Latin American and Caribbean put together a traveling exhibit on Latin American and Caribbean books, music, and research resources to tour the Lincoln Trails Libraries
Collections
All libraries made major transfers to Oak Street.
Africana initiated a cooperative project and purchased a package of 80 South African electronic journals
Africana expanded blanked order profile with Hogarth Representation to include three new countries
Africana contributed $1000 to the CRL Shared Purchase Program to help buy Government Publications Related to the Cape of Good Hope, to 1910, 47 reels
Architecture and Art made a collaborative purchase of ASTOR for the Campus
AA, with an NEH grant, was able to purchase the seven issues of Wendigen devoted to the life and work of the American architect, Frank Lloyd Wright
Library and Information Science acquired an online subscription to The Informed Librarian, as the first step in phasing out the journal table-of-contents photocopy service
LIS in partnership with Education and Social Science acquired a subscription to the Children’s Literature Comprehensive Database
Collections negotiated ARTStor, linked with other campus units to make it financially possible
Collections implemented a pilot study in collaboration with the IUB to place textbooks on reserve in UGL
Rare Books and Special Collections acquired a manuscript containing works by Christine de Pizan (c. 1365-c. 1430)
Tech Services set up a forum for posting electronic resources offers
TS licensed $200,000 of Health sciences databases

History and Philosophy consolidated with the Newspaper Library
Undergraduate room 291 was converted to a new classroom

Africana received NEH and Library Friends grants to purchase two interdisciplinary collections ($13,055)
Africana purchased 15 new videos with a $1500 matching grant from the Center for African Studies and the Library Media Center
English led the Library’s assessment of the MLA International Bibliography platforms
History and Philosophy helped to secure a major donation (Clifford family endowment) to their unit
City Planning and Landscape Architecture received its first collection endowment which will benefit the outstanding planning collection and provide permanent funds for acquisitions
CPLA was awarded $4,000 through the Illinois Cooperative Collection Management Program
CPLA received a $2,500 donation from a faculty member as well as part of his personal collection
CPLA received $1,800 from the departments of Landscape Architecture and Urban and Regional Planning for additional student wages to keep the library open nights and weekends
Classics gave tours as part of the “Sixth Biennial Shifting Frontiers in Late Antiquity Conference”
Applied Life Studies is developing new instruction programs to reach students enrolled in the College of ALS
Biology is developing a new instruction program to reach over 700 students in the IB/MCB 150 course sequence
Natural History Survey received a $20,000 grant to digitize over 20,000 historic photos dating back to the late 1800s
Veterinary Medicine is offering systematic library instruction to all 100+ incoming Vet Med students starting fall 2005
Communications received funding from a Communication’s College alum for a new circulation desk
Education and Social Science received the first endowment for the School Collection of children’s and young adult literature and the Mary Kathryn Bieniecki Memorial Endowment Fund was established
Global Studies developed an auxiliary conference for librarians at the “Global Studies in Higher Education Conference” (June 2005) and found funding support for an international participant in the project
Collections participated as a key partner in the first campus-wide “One Book, One Campus” program
Collections negotiated a gift of the personal library of Andrei Codrescu
Archives completed the processing of the Leon Dash papers and is planning a fall event for a formal collection opening
Asian was awarded $21,380 from the Japan Foundation Library Support Program to purchase three titles in 76 volumes and one CD-Rom
Asian received a $6,000 NCC MVS 2004-2005 award from the North American Coordinating Committee on Japanese Library Resources Multi Volume Set Program to purchase two titles in 23 volumes and 35 reels
Asian received $10,000 from NEH and Friends for the purchase of China Academic Journal Database-Series H backfile, $5,780 to purchase two Japanese titles in 38 volumes, $4,900 from Friends to purchase the Encyclopedia Indica: India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh in 150 volumes, and $59,000 to purchase Middle Eastern materials
Asian received $35,000 from Seoul Broadcasting Systems in Korea
Latin American and Caribbean had materials highlighted in a workshop for librarians and K-12 educators at the “Latin America and the Latina/o Community in Central Illinois Issues, Trends, and Information Resources” workshop (May 2005)
LACL welcomed several librarians from Costa Rica and gave a presentation on the Library as a research resource
Undergraduate received a $25,000 gift from an alum for window coverings
Information Literacy developed an implementation plan for information literacy in the campus University 101 initiative

Rare Book and Special Collections hosted descendants of Carl Sandburg and accepted additional correspondence from his early years
RBSC hosted a lecture, reception and book-signing for Barbara Burkhardt’s new book “William Maxwell: A Literary Life”
Slavic and East European held a Slavic Librarians’ Workshop/Digital Text Workshop (July 2005)
SEEL established collaboration with the Ukrainian Parliamentary Library; strengthened collaboration with Russian National Library and Jagiellonian Library in Poland
SEEL created a blog for the 2nd annual “Russian Reading Culture” workshop
