Services

Africana/Afro Americana upgraded and added content to Pan-African CD-ROM Workstation

Information Literacy Services and Instruction developed a “Take Us to School” website (http://www.library.uiuc.edu/edx/taketoschool/index.htm) for student teachers in Illinois

City Planning and Landscape Architecture added 2003 and 2004 American Planing Association Illinois Chapter Awards to the vertical file and published a description of the submissions on the web

Education and Social Science developed a new user aid to eHRAF (dataset of cross-cultural materials and core ethnographic texts)

Library and Information Science conducted usability testing of the new Online Research Resources interface with six LEEP students

Acquisitions worked with Collections, Systems, and Serial Cataloging to develop a workflow for troubleshooting ORR problems

 

Exhibits

Applied Life Studies prepared and mounted an exhibit in the Library’s cases on the Olympic Games

 

Collections

Asian subscribed to the first Chinese language online database “China Academic Journal,” Series F – Literature/History/Philosophy

Asian subscribed to the first online South Asian database, DELNET

Preservation coordinated mold mitigation on 39,000 sheets of manuscript material and 15 books

Conservation recovered books and materials during a water disaster in the attic

 

Facilities

Facilities has done an ongoing backshift in the basement of University Press to make more room for collections and surplus furniture

Facilities relocated the Women’s Studies Library from 1 Library to 415 Library

Facilities moved all card catalogs in the south hall and in Central Circulation to make room for tables and chairs

Facilities relocated employees from Hort Field Lab to Library

Facilities has been working with F&S to get the new sprinkler system installed in Stacks

 

Development/Public Affairs/Outreach

Asian awarded Y1,893,000 (US $16,594) from the Japan Foundation Library Support Program

Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) was one of twelve libraries to participate in the University of Texas at Austin’s Nettie Lee Benson Latin America Collection’s federally-funded project to microfilm 19th-Century Mexican Newspapers, which is now complete

LAC was one of a select number of U.S. libraries invited to the International Book Fair in Buenos Aires, Argentina

LAC’s materials were highlighted in a workshop for librarians and K-12 educators

Development established three new major Endowment Funds

Development completed a commemorative bookplate solicitation, which offered parents an opportunity to honor their child’s graduation while supporting the Library

Information Literacy Services and Instruction began a partnership between the Library and the student life First Year Impact course to include information literacy instruction

Biotechnology received a $8500 collection development grant from ICCMP to purchase biotechnology-related monographs

Mortenson received two grants ($92,580) to extend the Mellon partnership with South Africa and to work with Carnegie universities in Africa

Mortenson presented a program at the Chicago Public Library All Staff Institute Day

 

Other

Development received a “Best of Show” award from ALA for the FY03 Annual Report
