information about the National Bank of Slovakia such as
the laws that govern it, its organization, etc. Of particular
interest are the numerous financial statistics that are
available including state budget, inflation, and unemployment
data. Some reports are available for download in pdf format
such as the the Annual Report of the Bank and the full
version of Monetary Survey, the Bank's monthly
bulletin.

Here can be found general information on the composition
of the government and many of the documents it produces
such as the constitution, resolutions, programs and
communiques of the various sessions, etc. Through Govnet,
the computer network that unites the Slovak government
information sources, there is access to other government
agencies. The search component on this site requires
Slovak fonts.
Parliament

In Slovak or English. This is the main
site of the Narodna rada or Parliament of the Slovak
Republic. Here can be found general information on the
duties and composition of the Parliament, including
brief biographical data and photos of all of the deputies.
Information about the various committees is also provided
here. The Slovak version of the site has more information
than the English version, such as documents of the government
available in .pdf format. The text of the constitution
in Slovak is one of those documents. The search component
requires Slovak fonts.
Statistical Office of the Slovak

a wide range of information from population and consumer
statistics to election results. The ELIS or Electronic
Information Service allows connection via modem to a
large number of statistical publications which can be
downloaded. There are links to the IMF Dissemination
Standards Bulletin Board and to other countries' statistical
offices.

Encyclopedia of Contemporary Writers

In Slovak. This on-line encyclopedia
is produced by the Format Publishing House. The entries
consist of short biographies of Slovak writers with
a list of works published and a photograph. There is
an alphabetical index of the writers and a search component
which does not work with Slovak fonts.

Slovenska narodna kniznice

Slovak National Library. Available here are its on-line
catalogs of monographs and of articles as well as the
Slovak Union Catalog. The catalogs have an optional
English interface, but they do require Slovak fonts.

libraries in the Slovak Republic.

In Slovak. This site, part of the gateway Zoznam, has maps
of the Slovak Republic and several of its major cities.
The site is searchable by town and street name. The
maps can be viewed at four levels of detail. Although
at the deepest zoom level the maps show important buildings
and institutions, they are not accessible via searching.
The search component does not require Slovak fonts.

For someone who knows little about Slovakia, this site
would be a good starting point. The search component
is unreliable.

as an anonymous user enables access to selected news
stories in the areas of international or domestic news,
sports, economics, etc. The latest 2 weeks of news are
available by category or by keyword searching. The search
component does not require Slovak fonts. Full news access

site for matters relating to radio in the Slovak Republic.
It contains a list of Slovak radio stations arranged
by town as well as contact, licensing, and news agency
information for many stations. Listener statistics,
news on the radio industry and links to radio web sites
are just some of the features to be found here. A free
downloadable Real Player enables listening to live broadcasts
from various stations in .ram format through this site.

broadcasting companies arranged by country. There are
also links for sites that contain program schedules

Katalog slovenskeho internetu
URL: http://www.katalog.sk/ In Slovak. This gateway began in 1997
and appears to be smaller than Zoznam, but it has a
useful "special search" feature that allows searching
of Katalog, Zoznam and surf.sk at the same time. The
results indicate from which database the links were
taken and how many duplicate links appeared. The main
body of Katalog is a subject directory somewhat like
Yahoo, but not as in-depth. The links often appear with
a brief description of their content. The search component
does not work with Slovak fonts.
