following websites are resource guides for Russia, Eastern
Europe and Central Asia
compiled
by other universities, libraries and research centers.
- Central
Asian Studies World Wide - Harvard

- This
site acts as a guide for scholars researching in the area
and includes links to Central Asian studies resources world
wide. Most of the links are to Western sources and
institutions, but there are some links to Central Asian
universities and libraries. Also included on
the site are a dissertation index and a Central Asian Experts
directory.

- Central Asian - Caucasus Institute - John Hopkins University

- The CACI site contains a list of links for the region in general and separate
pages of links for each country in the region. Subject areas covered
include, for example, news, business, government, human rights, oil and gas and
NGOs. There are about 15-20 links listed for each country. The links
are mostly to Western maintained resources and all are in English. The
links are not annotated.

Eurasia Project - Soros Foundation

- Eurasianet
provides news and articles covering Central Asia, the Caucuses
and Mongolia, including commentary and articles on current
affairs, culture, human rights and election results, for
example. The site also includes extensive web resource
directories, organized by country. Each country's
page includes news, a news archive and a subject directory
of relevant websites covering topics ranging from business
to public health. The site includes a search function.

System on Legal Development in Transition States

The University of Bremen has made available the texts
of the civil codes, constitutions and numerous other legal
resources for Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan,
Kyrgyzstan Moldova, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and
Uzbekistan. The texts are usually available in both
Russian and the language of the country. The link
to civil laws will provide the user with access to full
text of civil codes in both languages.

- This
is an extensive and well organized directory of links for
Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Russia. The links are divided
by country and then by subject heading. The subject
coverage is wide, ranging from culture to statistics.
Hyperlinks connect to sites in English as well as in the
vernacular languages. However, as of early November 2000,
link directories have not yet been completed for several
countries.

- The
Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies site
includes a very limited number of annotated links.
There is a useful collection of links to relevant libraries
and collections in the U.S. and internationally.

- Electronic
Resources - University of Sussex

- These,
mainly Russia oriented links, are organized by broad subject
categories and then into more specific sub categories. Some
of the links include short annotation; most link to English
language sources. Includes ready reference as well
as directory sites. The page is aimed at students,
including, in addition to regional resources, links to academic
departments, funding sources, conferences and list-serves.

Herron's Guide to Post Communist States on the Web - University
of Kansas

- This
is one of the best area subject directories currently available,
well organized, with a huge number of annotated links.
The site is hosted by the University of Kansas Center for
Russian and East European Studies. The links are divided
into general, regional and country specific resources and
are further divided by subject within each geographic region.
Resources included in the guide focus on the areas of government,
politics, news and media and search engines, but include
other information as well. Links are to English and
vernacular language sites.

Analytic Center: Internet Eurasia

- This
site includes news and links on the countries of Central
Asia. The site is in Russian (Windows) and includes
lists of web sites organized by country. (The first page
of this site has an English version; however, all the links
are in Russian.)

Asia and Uralic National Resource Center - University of
Indiana

- This
page contains convenient starting points for exploring web
sites related to the countries of the Uralic language groups
(Estonia, Finland and Hungary), Central Asia, Mongolia and
Azerbaijan (as well as Tibet, Iran, Afghanistan and Turkey).
The links, mainly to English language ready reference and
directory style sites, are organized by region and by country.

Resources Guide - University of Illinois

- The
Russian and East European Center has organized a directory
of annotated web links into five broad subject categories:
Current News, Comprehensive Directories, Cultural Interest
Sites, Resources for K-12 Education and Scholarly Resources.
Most of the links are to English language sites although
some news sources are in the vernacular languages.
Some areas such as Russian culture include a number of links,
while other areas include only one or two links.

Web - University of Pittsburgh

- This is one of the most extensive and well annotated collection
of links currently available. The site is browsable by subject,
culture, region (where the site was created), and time period.
You can combine terms among these categories, but not within
a category. The site does include a search engine, but unfortunately
it searches all the linked sites, rather than REESweb itself,
therefore the results returned do not display REESweb's
annotations. The site also includes help pages for both
browsing and searching which are quite useful. Recently,
REESweb added an Events and Announcements feature, which
as of yet has not been fully utilized.

- REENIC
has a very large collection of links, organized by subject,
region and country. The site is well organized,
but the listings for each country can confusing to follow.
Some regions and countries are better covered that others.
Links are to to sites in the vernacular as well as English
language.

- Slavophilia

- This
commercial site indexes web resources by subject and by
country. Not all countries are included and coverage
varies. The links include both general non-area specific
sources and very specific country resources. Subjects
range from the Macedonian Table Tennis scene to Orthodox
Icons. Links are mainly to English language sites.

Slavic Research Center - Hokkaido University, Japan

- This
site includes a huge number of well organized links and
is one of the best directories online. Of particular
note is the global scope of the hosts of the linked sites.
Accordingly, the linked sites are in a wide variety of languages.
The links are organized by region and country and then by
subject. Also of use is a long list of sites that
link to the page. The site has a English and Japanese
interface.

- This
directory of fairly standard resources is organized by country
and within each country by subject. The links are
mainly to English language sites.

University Law School

- This
site includes annotated links on law, economics and business
for each of the Eastern European countries. There
are not a huge number of links here, but those that are
included are generally high quality.
