A valuable component of this site is the searchable full-text database of government decisions from 1993 to the present. Most of the full text documents are only available in Czech, however the language of the text of all documents is clearly indicated. This site attempts to provide links and content on Czech and world literature of the highest quality as the creator of the site, Radek Sarkozi, considers other Czech literature sites to be of inferior quality. Although small in size, this site has a very useful section, the links to other Czech literature sites. It also contains sections for reviews, literary journals, and Czech texts on-line. It includes some translations of western European works into Czech as well. While this site has many, apparently, useful links, as we are not subject specialists we cannot vouch for the quality or accuracy of the information they contain. This site which is located on the Charles University web server contains a database of citations and URL's to digitized texts by world authors, mostly Czechs so far. The search component requires Czech fonts. There is also an alphabetical list of authors and of subject categories. The page provides a list of links to other digital text sites. Libraries and ArchivesOften information about archives can be found on genealogical sites since genealogists make extensive use of archival documents in their research. General link to the National Library of the Czech Republic and its on-line catalog which contains records for many Czech books published since 1930 and for all acquisitions since 1995. Czech fonts are necessary for accurate searching. Also available are the various scanned card catalogs with a description of content and the number of records included. For example, the first General Catalog spans items published from 1501 through 1950. The cards are in .tiff format, so a free plug-in may need to be installed for viewing. No fonts are required for use of this database. This site includes links to other on-line library catalogs of the Czech Republic. A new feature is the Memoriae Mundi Series Bohemica which includes a database of digitized texts, many of which are Jesuit documents, Hussite and pre-Hussite works. There is a database of all the Czech libraries which includes contact information, data on the size and type of collection, the kinds of catalogs in the library, etc. Czech fonts are necessary for searching, but a clickable map and regional list enable access without fonts. Another valuable database is SKAT, the Union catalog of over 90 public libraries in the Czech Republic. In English. Women's IssuesThis is a challenging topic to search on the internet. Searching the word "zeny" in a Czech search engine is more likely to result not in sites of interest to women or about women's issues, but rather in sites for dating services and pornography. Be prepared to sift through unwanted hits or try searching more specific terms.
