What Are Current Awareness Features?

  • The ability to set up permanent searches.
  • The ability to save a search you have created and run it manually whenever you wish.
  • The option to receive email updates (auto-alerts) when new research matching your search criteria is added to the database.
The American Bibliography of Slavic and East European Studies(ABSEES) and the Modern Language Association Bibliography (MLA) are just two of the databases that offer these features. To take advantage of the current awareness features in either of these databases you must first establish an individual login which will allow you to access your searches, edit them to fit your research needs, etc.

You can save your searches in ABSEES and/or MLA and run them at a later time. You can also select an option that would allow you to email the results of your search. It is also possible to set up a RSS feed to be kept updated on your research. Instructions can vary from one database to another but tend to be fairly similar.

A few of our full-text databases do no offer these features, notably the EastView databases and C.E.E.O.L. For more information contact the Slavic Reference Service or our Main Reference department.
