Finding an article unavailable at UIUC

How to obtain article photocopies

If you've checked the Online Research Resources page and the catalog and haven't been able to find a journal, magazine, or newspaper you need at UIUC, you can request an article photocopy through Interlibrary Loan. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Interlibrary Loan page and click Login to My Account: Interlibrary Loan page
  2. Enter your NetID and password when prompted.
  3. After you've successfully logged in, click Request a Photocopy: Requesting a photocopy from ILLIAD screen
  4. Fill out all the starred fields on the request form, and include any additional information you think may be helpful in the Notes field: Request form
  5. Double-check citation details and click Submit Request when finished.

Important things to note:

  • This service is free for UIUC faculty and students in cases when UIUC doesn't own a particular journal title (or a needed volume or issue thereof), or if UIUC's copy is out for binding or missing.
  • It usually takes 7-10 days to obtain photocopies, and you'll receive an email at your UIUC address when the article is available.
  • In most cases, the article will be made available to you online as a PDF.
  • This service should be used for requesting copies of single articles, not entire issues or volumes of a journal.
