Requesting items in the UIUC catalog
Once you've found an item in the UIUC catalog, you have two options for getting your hands on it: visiting the library in person to check it out, or requesting the book online. By placing on online request, you can have a book delivered to a campus library of your choice or to a campus office address (if you're a grad student or faculty member). Here are the steps:
- Locate the item you need in the UIUC catalog. (See this page for tips on finding a specific book. If UIUC doesn't own the item you need, or it's checked out, see this page for instructions on placing a request for another library's copy.)
- Click Request on the upper menu bar.
- Login with your last name and library ID number (the 14 digit number beginning with 2011- on your i-card).
- After logging in, click OK to request the first available UIUC copy.
- If you would like the item to be sent to a location other than the Main Stacks circulation desk (the default choice), select an alternate library from the list. If you are a faculty member or grad student and would like the item sent to your campus office address, choose UIUC Campus Mail.
- Enter your library ID number one more time, and then click Submit Request.
Requests usually take about two days to fulfill (allow an additional day or two if you select the campus mail option), and you'll receive an email when the item is ready for pickup.
If you need assistance placing an online request, please call the library telephone center at (217) 333-8400 or Ask A Librarian.
