Workshops and Educational Efforts

Our unit offers several kinds of workshops, both in-house and at other library departments. Some of the topics of these workshops are: Practicing Preservation; Care and Handling of Library Materials; Mending and Repairs; Introduction to In-house Procedures; and Treatment of Water-Damaged Materials.

Mending Workshops
We have occasional, internal workshops primarily for our staff, to devise new techniques and refine old ones.

Mending instruction is also offered to departmental library staff who wish to augment our efforts to maintain their collections. Shown below, a staff member helps James from the Architecture Library practice the techniques required to insert loose pages.

Introduction to In-house Procedures
At a two-day, library-wide open house, we invited all interested library staff to "view and do" our routine work processes. Our objective was to orient staff and give them insight into how to best use our services.
