COLLECTION: Lloyd and Edna Morey music materials
LOCATION AS OF February, 2002: Music Library (cataloged books and scores),
University Press Building Library storage area (uncataloged materials)
PROVENANCE: Personal library of former University President Lloyd Morey and his
wife
WHEN ACQUIRED: Some materials purchased from Edna Morey in February, 1967; other
items donated at various times since 1946.
DESCRIPTION: Compositions and arrangements by Lloyd Morey in manuscript and
printed formats, as well as published music (much of it for organ, choral
ensembles, or vocal soloists) in donors' personal collection.
ARRANGEMENT: Some items may have been cataloged individually for the Music
Library's circulating or Special Collections stack areas. Other materials remain
uncataloged and unprocessed.
ACCESS/FINDING AIDS/BIBLIOGRAPHY: A Collections File folder ("Morey, Lloyd")
contains a list of 34 books, scores, and collections acquired in 1967; many of
these items have been interfiled among uncataloged vocal music holdings in
storage. A box of additional materials, clearly labeled as to the fact that it
contains materials by or formerly belonging to Lloyd Morey, remains in the
University Press Building Library storage area. A few additional music items,
together with copies of correspondence between
Lloyd Morey and Music Librarian Jay Allen, are to be found in the Collections
File folder.

Lloyd Morey, Professor of Accounting, 1921-55, and President of the University
of Illinois from 1954 to 1955, gave his personal library of organ music and
manuscript copies of his compositions to the University
Library's Music Library. Mrs. Morey made a gift of her collection of vocal music
to the Music Library. The Morey collection also contains recordings of Mr.
Morey's speeches and of dinners honoring, him; the recordings are housed in the
University Archives.
