COLLECTION: Edwin R. Maslen Memorial Collection of 78 rpm and LP recordings
LOCATION AS OF 2001: University Press Building Library storage area
PROVENANCE: Donated to University of Illinois by Mary Maslen, widow of Edwin
Maslen, at the suggestion of Robert Bays, director of the School of Music.
WHEN ACQUIRED: September 1979
DESCRIPTION: Total of 2,586 78-rpm discs and approximately 1,800 long-playing
records, almost exclusively of classical repertory, including "many difficult to
find and valuable recordings" (Robert Bays,
letter of 11 Sep 79, Collections File)
ARRANGEMENT: LP recordings interfiled by record company/serial number within
holdings of uncataloged recordings in storage. Presumably 78-rpm records have
also been interfiled among 78-rpm holdings in the University Press Building
storage area.
ACCESS/ FINDING AIDS/ BIBLIOGRAPHY; Collections File folder ("Maslen, Mary")
includes 60-page list of LP discs arranged under company/serial number,
"Long-playing Recordings from the Edwin R. Maslen Memorial Collection." Maslen
collection bookplates have been affixed to some (if not all) individual albums.
No list exists of individual 78-rpm albums.
