LOCATING MATERIALS IN THE UIUC MUSIC LIBRARY
Open-shelf materials:
Books ( e.g., MLs, MTs, 780s) are on the 1st floor.
Quarto-sized books (Q. prefix) are interfiled with regular books.
Folio-sized books (F. prefix) are on the 2nd floor.
Scores are on the 2nd floor.
Regular-sized and quarto-sized scored (q.M) are interfiled.
Miniature scores (MM), folio-sized scores (f.M), and scores prefaced with MO have separate locations on the 2nd floor.

Classification Number and by Library of Congress number. We use both systems in
the Music Library.

Classification Scheme
LP Sound recordings are on the 2nd floor in Special Collections and must
be asked for at the Circulation Desk on the 1st floor.
CDs are housed in closed stacks on the
first floor and must be asked for at the Circulation Desk on the 1st floor.
Reference collections of both books and scores are on the 1st floor.
Special collections are located on the second floor but must be asked
for at the Circulation Desk on the first floor. Materials include LPs,
microforms, cassettes, rare books and scores, etc.
Music reserves are found at the first floor circulation desk.
SPECIAL LOCATIONS
Periodicals -- Located on the first floor, west side, following the LPs. They are shelved alphabetically by titles. The current
subscription file located near the reference desk may be helpful in verifying issues received in the Music Library.
Index table -- Located in the Music Information Center. Music Index, RILM, New Grove, and the Encyclopedia Britannica
are found here.
New books -- for a listing of new items, see http://www.library.uiuc.edu/newtitles/
