UIUC School of Music Choral and Orchestra Holdings

New Procedures:

Effective September 1, 1998, the Music Library at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign divested itself of maintaining and administering the orchestral (OC) and choral (CC) libraries of performance materials. These responsibilities have reverted to the School of Music.

Use of choral scores and orchestral parts is limited to:

1. School of Music faculty or graduate assistants who are conductors of School of Music ensembles and intend to use the music only for School of Music sponsored rehearsals and concerts;
2. School of Music faculty or students who are using the scores or parts for classroom purposes, including courses in choral and orchestra literature.

Major performance ensembles will have priority over ad hoc needs.

As of Spring 1999, call numbers for School of Music Ensemble music may be obtained from the Music Library online and/or card catalogs. Black ring binders located in the Music Library Reference area contain browsing copies of some choral collection scores.

Requests for music from the choral and orchestral ensemble holdings should be submitted at least five weekdays in advance of the earliest date needed (one week in advance is preferred).  Request forms are available from:

1. Music Library Circulation Desk; or,
2. Secretary of the choral, opera, and orchestral divisions, in Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, Room 4-410 (333-3206); or,
3. Music Building Receptionist's Office, Room 2134 (333-2620)

Please remember that all parts must be picked up in and returned to Room 306 Smith Memorial Hall

during normal operating hours—hours vary each semester.

To gain access to the third floor of Smith Hall, you or your assistant must first get a key from:

1. Secretary of the choral, opera, and orchestral divisions, in Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, Room 4-410 (333-3206); or,
2. Music Building Receptionist's Office, Room 2134 (333-2620)
