Renewing Materials

Books from the UIUC Library

If no one else has requested them, books and materials you have borrowed may be renewed (journals are not renewable) in any of the following three ways:

  • UIUC Library website - see the instructions for managing your library account; then look at your "Items checked out" list to select the item you wish to renew. Follow the instructions given on the screen to renew. Check the due date after you attempt to renew to verify the renewal occurred.
  • Telephone - call the Library Telephone Center at 333-8400
  • In person - at the circulation desk at most University of Illinois departmental libraries; in most cases, you don't need to have the book with you.

Books from Other Institutions

Books obtained through ILL/DD are generally not renewable. Check with an ILL/DD staff person to determine whether or not your books can be renewed.

CARLI (I-Share) books are only renewable a certain number of times; you may not be allowed to renew or make changes if you have fines on your account. Patrons can use the three methods for renewing UIUC books to attempt to renew these books. Please be sure to verify renewal went through. If your account has been blocked, call the library phone center for assistance (333-8400).
