Full-Text Newspaper Indexes
Click on the title to search the
Library's ORR for the resource.

Indexes to Newspapers: There are several online indexes to newspapers available to UIUC affiliates. These indexes have excellent coverage of major American newspapers, while their coverage of International ones is spotty. If indexing to foreign language newspapers through Lexis-Nexis is not sufficient for locating relevant articles on a subject, a searcher can at least locate dates of events through The New York Times Historical, which has full page and article images for 1851-1999. To search this database, click on the following link: The New York Times Historical.

Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe

Full text articles from some prominent newspapers in French, Dutch, German, Italian, and Spanish can be retrieved through through this database In two ways. One way is to enter searches in these languages (English operators [and, or, not] must be used to combine search terms). Another way is to use the Guided News Search. Under Step One, select "Non-English Language News" and Under Step Two,  chose a language. Diacritic marks should be ignored, except in German, where "E" must follow all vowels with an umlaut.

EbscoHost Newspaper Source

Center for Research Library's Foreign Newspapers and Ethnic Press (for North American Ethnic Newspapers)

The Center for Research Libraries holds a rich collection of foreign-language and North American Ethnic newspapers on microfilm.
