Plat and Sidwell Maps

The Map and Geography Library maintains a set of "plat books" for Illinois counties. These are atlases that show land ownership for rural areas. A set of current, non-circulating plat books published by the Rockford Map Company is located behind the Circulation Desk. Individual counties may be borrowed, with appropriate ID, for two hours. A set of circulating plat books published by Farm & Home Publishers is shelved in the Map and Geography Library bookstacks. Browse in the 912.773 call number area or search for Farm & Home Publishers in the online catalog to find the call number for a specific county.

Older plat book editions are housed in Main Stacks (STX). The Illinois Historical Survey Library also has 19th century county histories which often include plat maps.

The Map and Geography Library also has some atlases from the Sidwell Company that show land ownership for urban areas. Sidwell holdings include St. Clair County (East St. Louis), Champaign County and the Chicago area.
