Finding Research Articles and Refereed Journal Articles

Finding Research Articles and Refereed Journals

Each semester LIS 380 (class is numbered LIS 501 under the new system) students are plagued with the same question: How can one determine if an article is research and/or from a refereed journal? To answer this question, students must understand:
  • the definitions of various types of research in the field of library and information science;
  • the components of a research article;
  • what defines a refereed journal;
  • and how to search for appropriate research articles and refereed journals.
This site helps students answer these questions. In the right hand column are links to the tutorial. Users can proceed through the tutorial from start to finish, or simply choose a specific topic area to focus on. At the end of each section are review questions to help the user learn the information provided.
