LEARN One: Library organization

The organization of the University of Illinois Library includes the Main Library, the Undergraduate Library, and other departmental libraries across campus. You can get better acquainted with the library by taking the virtual tour. On the virtual tour you will learn about each of the departmental libraries, the special collections, and art in the library, as well as take a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of the library system.
 
  I have my call number and location -- how do I find the books?
 

LEARN Two: Call numbers

The University of Illinois Library largely uses the Dewey Decimal system. This is the same organization that you are used to in public libraries and is great for serendipitous finds by browsing. If you need help reading the call number, this tutorial can help. There are a few locations in the Library system that use the Library of Congress classification scheme. Government documents also use their own unique classification systems, Superintentent of Documents and United Nations call numbers.

Where can I park at the library?

LEARN Three: Visiting the library

Daytime parking on the University of Illinois campus can be difficult and it may be more convenient to walk to some destinations. Between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. visitors may park in metered spaces along streets and in metered spaces in parking lots and facilities indicated in blue on the campus map. All other campus lots are reserved for permit holders only, and your car may be towed if you park in prohibited spaces. Meters are 75 cents an hour in 20 minute increments.   Do you have wireless access in the library?

LEARN Four: Wireless access

All public areas in the library now have wireless access. Wireless access is available in the library for faculty and students. If you plan to view streaming video, you may also be interested in campus ethernet locations. Your NetID and password are required to log in through either QuickConnect and a web browser or a VPN client. If you have further questions please visit Wireless FAQ.   Can I print/scan at the library?

LEARN Five: Printing at the library

All public access computers have the ability to print. Check out the the list of locations for printing in the library. Most libraries have black and white printers for your convenience and the cost is 10 cents per sheet. The Information Services Desk, located on the second floor of the Main Library, also has a color printer that charges by the amount of toner used. To print a document, choose File > Print. A new window will pop up and you can choose to login with your NEtID and password to have the charges billed to your University account or you may send the print job to the Undergraduate Library to pay in cash or you may sign up for a prepaid account.
