  • Biblioteca Virtual Miguel de Cervantes - Historia - The history section of the Miguel de Cervantes digital library. Includes features on Hispano-american constitutions and the expulsion of the Jesuits from the colonies. Directed by Dr. Cayetano Mas Galvany, profesor del Departamento de Historia Medieval y Moderna de la Universidad de Alicante. In Spanish.
  • American Memory - Multimedia collections of digitized documents, photographs, recorded sound, moving pictures, and text from the Library of Congress' Americana collections.
  • H-LatAm - "International forum for the scholarly discussion of Latin American History."


Colonial Latin America

  • Vistas: Visual Culture in Spanish America, 1520-1820 - "A critical selection of color images, primary sources, and interpretive essays on colonial history and culture." Includes an image gallery of paintings, sculpture, architecture, and other artifacts. Directed by professors at Smith College and Fordham University. Available in English or Spanish.
  • 1492: An Ongoing Voyage - An exhibit that gives social and historical background information about Columbus' voyage to the New World, from the Library of Congress. English.
  • Conquistadors - This site follows the paths of sixteenth-century conquistadors Hernán Cortés in Aztecan Mexico, Francisco Pizarro in the Incan Empire of South America, Cabeza de Vaca in Texas, and Francisco de Orellana on the Amazon River.
  • Letters of Philip II, King of Spain, 1592 - 1597, "A large and important collection of letters and other documents, almost all signed by the King, mainly to Diego de Orellana de Chaves, Corregidor of the Four Towns of the Sea on Spain's North Coast, on the naval war against England and France, etc. [Origin of letters:] Spain (chiefly the various residences of the Court; Santander, Laredo, etc.), various dates from 20 November 1591 to 10 July 1597."

  • Quipu. Reference portal focused on Web-based resources to support research in Andean archaeology.


Central America


Argentina

  • "She Died Just in Time" A broadcast of the BBC program about Argentina's Eva Perón. Contains an archive about Evita and new interviews conducted in Argentina.
  • Nunca Más (Never Again) Report of Conadep (National Commission on the Disappearance of Persons), 1984.  A complete report on "Los Desaparecidos" of Argentina's Guerra Sucia, including victim's testimonies, official documents, reports and verdicts, a list of detention centers, and a bibliography. Available in English or Spanish.


Mexico

  • Mexico History Directory. Texts about the 5 de mayo, Mexican Constitutions, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and other items of general interest.
  • Ancient Mexico - "The art, culture, and history of ancient mesoamerica."  Also includes Chile and Peru.
