Health Sciences

  • MEDLINEplus:  Hispanic American Health - Section of MEDLINEplus specifically dedicated to health issues in the Hispanic community.  Provides links to the following:  Latest News, Prevention/Screening, Research, Specific Conditions/Aspects, Law and Policy, Organization, Statistics, Seniors, Women,  and Teenagers.
  • Virtual Health Library of BIREME, the Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information. The site can be viewed in English, Spanish, and Portuguese and offers access to 14 databases.
  • World Health Organization (WHO) - This website provides the user with ability to scan its library of health science information.  The user is also able to search its electronic collections on topics such as:  League of Nations malaria documents and rare books on plague, smallpox, and epidemiology.
  • Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) - The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is an international public health agency with more than 90 years of experience in working to improve health and living standards of the countries of the Americas. It serves as the specialized organization for health of the Inter-American System. It also serves as the Regional Office for the Americas of the World Health Organization and enjoys international recognition as part of the United Nations system.
  • Health of Nations - A report, in pdf format, from the Healthcare Practice of the World Markets Research Centre.  The Latin American section is on pp. 17-20. English.
  • Pop Planet - PopPlanet is a website for learning, information sharing and communication about population, health and environment connections in different regions.
  • Asociación Latinoamericana de Diabetes (ALAD) - The association for Diabetes in Latin America was created in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1970.  This site provides information for the medical community, diabetics, and families of diabetics.  This site is in Spanish and Portuguese.
  • Bibliomed Inc. - Bibliomed is the leading healthcare internet company in Latin America, providing integrated content and connectivity solutions for patients, physicians, companies and institutions.  Customized by country and accessible in Spanish and Portuguese, Bibliomed is the region's comprehensive resource, offering an innovative blend of information, community, products, services and educational solutions that together enable better communications and access to information, lower costs, and improve the overall quality of healthcare.
  • Latin American Health Institute - The Latino Health Institute is a community-based professional organization that promotes the health of the community, its institutions, families and individuals through effective interventions that are culturally competent and technologically appropriate.
  • NOAH:  New York Online Access to Health - NOAH seeks to provide high quality full-text health information for consumers that is accurate, timely, relevant and unbiased. NOAH currently supports English and Spanish.
