  • Exploring Colonial Mexico - Photo gallery of the art and architecture of Spanish colonial Mexico. Created by Mexican publisher Espadaña Press. English.


Art

  • Archivos Virtuales - A virtual archive featuring the papers of Latino and Latin American artists administered by the Smithsonian Center for Latino Initiatives. Includes collections guides, finding aids and oral histories. English.
  • CEMA (California Ethnic and Multicultural Archives) - A division of the Special Collections Department of the University Libraries at the University of California, Santa Barbara, that advances scholarship in ethnic studies through its varied collections of primary research materials, including the study of art. English.
  • The Latin American Art Museum - Website of "the first visual art institution in Florida to foster and promote both established and emerging contemporary artists of diverse Latin American, Caribbean and Spanish heritage." Available in English or Spanish.
  • UECLAA (University of Essex Collection of Latin American Art) - Website of "the only public collection in Europe dedicated exclusively to modern and contemporary Latin American Art." Available in English or Spanish.
  • Polvo Art Studio - A "artist collective" who "promote the art and literature of the world." Their site includes information on various Latin American artists, events, and the Polvo magazine. English.

     Caribbean

  • Caribbean Studies Press Online journal focusing on various aspects of Caribbean studies including visual and performing arts. English.

     Guatemala

  • Arte Maya Tz'utuhil Museum and Gallery - "Painters and paintings from the highlands of Guatemala." Includes images of paintings for sale and display, textiles, and photographs, as well as articles. The Arte Maya Tz'utuhil organization is based in California but makes regular visits to Guatemala. In English and Spanish.

     Mexico

  • Diego Rivera Virtual Museum - A page dedicated to the Mexican artist, with galleries of his works and murals, as well as biographical information. Created by Javier A. Rivera. English.

     Peru

  • Acsinsa Art Gallery - Online exhibit of Peruvian artists from the gallery in Lima. Currently available only in Spanish.
  • The Electric Gallery: the Amazon Project - A gallery of paintings documenting "the flora, fauna, and culture of the Amazon."  Hosted by the Usko-Ayar ("spiritual prince" in Quechua) Amazonian School of Painting, "an institution devoted to the rescue and preservation of the knowledge and the traditions of the indigenous people of the Peruvian Amazon." English.
  • El Barroco Peruano - The CD-ROM accompaniment to the book of the same name, which describes, with pictures, the art and architecture of Peru during the Baroque period.  Must have the Citrix software (available for free download through the above link) to access this resource. In Spanish.


Culinary Arts/Recipes

  • Chilenos cocinando a la chilena  - A webpage for the book of the same name, written by Roberto Marin Vivado. Offers selected recipes for traditional Chilean food. In Spanish.
  • A Taste of Brazil - Recipes for traditional Brazilian food, arranged by category. Part of the Multicultural Home Page at Purdue University. English.

  • Casi Nada - Site from Spain containing numerous articles and essays on Latin American culture. In Spanish.
  • Mija Magazine - This e-magazine is dedicated to the empowerment of Latina women through cultural articles and possibilities. Spanglish.
  • Ciberayllu - "An electronic publication of a group of Peruvians and friends of Peru who...have decided to share their writings with whomever wants to read them." Edited by Domingo Martínez Castilla and hosted by the University of Missouri. In Spanish.
  • ADES - Asociación para la Difusión del Español y la Cultura Hispánica.
  • CubaNow - the digital magazine of Cuban Arts and Culture. English.

    Colombia

  • SINIC - Sistema Nacional de Información Cultural. "Provides information on the cultural activities or organizations [in] Colombia such as museums, theatres, art galleries..." Also has a list of festivals. Spanish.

    Puerto Rico

    Spain

  • ARCE (Asociación de Revistas Culturales de España) - Complete table-of-contents summaries of nearly all learned journals and cultural publications in Spain. In Spanish.


Film

  • Current Trends in Latino Cinema - "Articles regarding Latino Cinema that have been published over the past several years in the annual San Diego Latino Film Festival Souvenir Program." English.
  • SubCine - An artist-run and artist-owned collective of Latino issue film and video makers.  Go here to order independent Latino films or sign up for their newsletter to stay updated. English.
  • Latin American Video Archives - "The place to purchase Latin American & U.S. Latino-made film and video." A project of the International Media Resource Exchange. English.
  • First Run/Icarus Films - A listing of films on Latin American Studies, including new releases, from the New York-based documentary film distributor. English.
  • Cinema and Video in Latin America - Resources covering education and distribution, festivals, and other topics relating to film in Latin America, with country-specific links. Created by the Latin American Network Information Center (LANIC) at the University of Texas at Austin. English.
  • Latin American film links - A list of e-journals and links pertaining to Latin American film, organized by country.  Created by the Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut Preussischer Kulturbesitz (Ibero-American Institute of the Prussian Heritage Foundation). In English and Spanish.
  • Cinemaluna - A site that promotes alternative and independent Chicano cinema.  Includes lots of great links to information about film schools, organizations, etc. English.
  • Cubacine - "Portal de Cine Cubano." Includes synopses and other information about current Cuban films as well as a Cuban filmography. In Spanish.

  • Latin American Music Center - The Center "fosters the research and performance of  Latin American art music." Page includes publications and a good page of online resources. From the School of Music, Indiana University. English.
  • Mundo Latino Música - Links to sites on Latin American musicians and groups, as well as to music portals. In Spanish.
  • Salsa Music - Biographies and discographies of several famous Latino salsa artists. From the discontinued Latino Jukebox. English.

      Argentina

  • Tango Lyrics Home-Page - A database of tango and milonga lyrics, with links to other tango sites. In Spanish.
  •       Bolivia

  • Khana - Website of Cultural Center Khana, which promotes Bolivian and Andean music and culture. In Spanish and English.
  •       Brazil

    • Brazilian Music & Folklore - Information about Brazilian dance, festivals, music, people, arts, and crafts. Created by the organization Maria-Brazil, "home of Brazilian culture on the web." English.
    • Música Colonial Brasileira - A somewhat outdated page on colonial Brazilian music and research. Edited by Brazilian agronomist Celso Lago Paiva. In Portuguese.
    • The Brazilian Sound - An index by genre and artist of Brazilian CDs, which are available for online purchase from the company through Amazon. English.

          Cuba

    • AfroCuba Web's Music page - Information on Cuban musicians, music groups, dancers, etc. Includes performance information and a number of Cuban music links. English.
    • Cuba's Music History - A brief history of Cuba and its musical influences, based on the program notes of Afro-Cuba: A Musical Anthology. English.
    • Encyclopedic Discography of Cuban Music 1925-1960 - An online encyclopedia of Cuban recordings during this time period, arranged alphabetically by artist. Includes photographs and biographical information. Written by Cristobal Diaz-Ayala and hosted by the Florida International University Library. Available in English or Spanish.
      • Timeline of Celia Cruz's Discography - A discography, complete with images, of famous Cuban musician Celia Cruz. An exhibit presented by the Diaz-Ayala Cuban and Latin American Popular Music Collection and Discography of the FIU Library. English.

         Peru
    • El Rincón Musical Peruano - Audio and lyrics of a wide variety of Peruvian music and songs, arranged in categories. Created by Peruvian Ricardo M. Serrano. Available in English, Spanish, or French.
    • Alturas - Website of Alturas, a Peruvian musical group performing Afro-Andean and Latin American music. Spanish.


    Photography

    • Zonezero - A site "dedicated to photography and its journey from the analog to the digital world." Features an extensive gallery of more than 170 photographers. Available in English and Spanish.
    • History of Latin American Photography - "A research resource" whose "goal is to promote interest in the history of Latin American photography." Includes links to bibliographies and other online resources. Constructed and maintained by Yolanda Retter, a librarian at the University of Southern California. English.
    • Antecámara - "El sitio de la fotografía en México." Includes articles, directories of photographers, information about exhibitions, chatrooms, and more. In Spanish.
    • Manuel R. Bustamente Photograph Collection - "Hundreds of photographs of Cuba from the turn of the 20th century to the 1990s." From the Cuban Heritage Digital Collection, Otto G. Richter Library, University of Miami. English.
