Dialup Service
- For staff members who are in the 217 area code location, Library IT recommends you use CITES Dialup Access by dialing a local number specified on the CITES Dialup Access page. You then can connect to the UIUC network and access your G and H drives.
- For staff members who are outside the 217 area code location, you have several options:
- Use a calling card -- Library IT highly recommends you use UIUC Library Internet-Connection Calling Card for dialup connection since this choice is reliable and the most cost-effective
- Through CITES 800-number access -- you need to sign up before you use this service)
- Use an ISP service provider service and make a local or 800-number call
- CITES offers a complete set of instruction on how to configure and use the Dialup connections, please visit CITES Dialup Access page.
UIUC Library Internet-Connection Calling Card
- The card is purchased and owned by central library administration. It is specifically intended for library-related work via the internet and for those who are traveling away from Champaign/Urbana to use a modem dialing back into the campus network.
- The difference between the UIUC Library Internet-Connection Calling Card and the 800-service from CITES or any other service providers is that Library IT (rather than CITES or another service provider) supports your library-related electronic access and this card costs less than just about any other provider service.
- To obtain a library calling card, email Susan Edwards of the Library Business Office.
- Additional setup is required for using a calling card, please visit CITES Calling Cards and Dialup Services for instructions.
- Note: if you are going to be at a university or other organization while out of town, you should first try to get dialup or even ethernet network access through that university or organization.
