Loanable Computer Equipment
- Library IT provides loanable laptops and projectors for use by Library faculty/staff on a short-term loan basis. We also have a microphone, Blackberry, flash drives, and external disk drives. This equipment can be requested as needed for loan periods of up to two weeks. To insure that the equipment you need is available and ready for you at the desired time, please place your loan requests as far in advance as possible.
- On behalf of the Library Research and Publication Committee (RPC), Library IT also has loanable recording and transcription equipment and voice recognition software These products, which were purchased by RPC for use only by Library Faculty engaged in research projects, all circulate together as a kit. The RPC equipment/software kit can be borrowed for longer than two weeks.

- Come to the IT Help Desk in 424 Main Library to pick up loaner equipment that you have requested. Help Desk hours are 8:30 - 5:00, Monday through Friday. If you need to request equipment for same day pick up in an emergency situation, please submit your request no later than 4:30 PM. Requests placed after 4:30 will be ready for you in the morning on the next business day.
- When you come to the IT Help Desk to pickup requested equipment, you will be asked to sign an Equipment Loan Agreement which states that you assume liability for the equipment while it is in your care and that you agree to return all equipment in good working order by the agreed upon due date.
- The Equipment Loan Agreement is required by Illinois state law and is in accordance with "Section 12.1-Custodianship of Property" outlined in the UIUC Business and Financial Policies and Procedures.
- It is important that all loanable equipment be returned on time. This equipment is in heavy demand. Your compliance with the loan agreement assures that your colleagues will also be able to obtain requested equipment promptly to meet their needs.
- Each laptop is re-imaged (wiped clean and rebuilt) when it is returned to the IT Help Desk. This ensures that each user gets up-to-date, secure, and functional equipment. Please be sure not to save important data to the local hard drive (C:\ drive) on a loanable laptop. Use some form of removable media instead to avoid losing your data.
- Library IT is not responsible for any costs incurred while you are using the loanable equipment.
- Library IT does its best to provide you with clean, secure, and fully functional equipment, but cannot be held accountable for unforeseeable hardware failure.
