Alphabetically arranged, the entries discuss the writer's biography, connection to the Holocaust, writing, reception, and appended lengthy bibliographies. The entries describe the writer's connection to the Holocaust as well as to other Holocaust literature and gives an overview of major works. Entries include bibliography. An informative source for anyone interested in the Holocaust or in twentieth-century literature.

This work "aims to recover the rich history of Jewish creative writers worldwide in the 20th century and make visible their diverse accomplishments, examining in particular the Jewish themes in their work." The book opens with five "Introductory Surveys" on various bodies of Jewish writing, for instance, "American-Jewish Literature", "Hebrew Literature in the 20th Century", and "Holocaust Writing". The bulk of the volume are alphabetically-arranged entries of individual writers. Each entry gives a brief biography, discusses important literary works and achieves, and select bibliography.
