Library Information Technology Advisory Committee
Charge
Committee provides regular advice that will enable the Office of IT to implement technology
support and development in the following areas:
- Production services and technologies recommended by CAPT for access to and preservation of the
Library's collections and to enhance the Library's service programs;
- Desktop and server support, including Library-wide software and hardware upgrades;
- Support for and development of the Library's network and other technology infrastructure;
- The integration of new technologies into the mainstream of Library IT production and
support;
- Library Information technology policies, their relationship to campus IT policies, and current
legislation in the areas of information access and privacy;
- Technology training needs in new areas (in collaboration with Library Staff Training
Coordinator);
- Ongoing assessment of Library IT services and programs;
- Regional, national and international IT opportunities and relationships;
The committee meets on a monthly basis - more often depending on the topics under
consideration.
Suggested Composition
Appointed by the University Librarian with the advice of the Library Executive Committee;
A total of 6 librarians or academic professionals, with 2-year terms (staggered initially):
- 3 staff or faculty engaged in public service provision and collection development;
- 1 staff or faculty involved in some aspect of technical service (cataloging, acquisitions,
preservation, conservation);
- 1 staff or faculty involved in digital library or new technology development activity
- 1 staff or faculty from an administrative unit (e.g., Library Business Office, Human Resources,
Facilities, Development and Public Affairs)
