An interdisciplinary index to social science literature. Provides access to related articles by indicating sources in which a known article by a given author has been cited. This is done in the citation index section. A permuterm index provides subject access, and the source index gives full bibliographic information for all articles indexed during the period. For additional information on how to use SSCI, see handout.

Social Sciences Index. 1974-.

Indexes approximately 300 journals in the social sciences and covers topics such as oral communication, interpersonal communication and public speaking. A separate section in each issue indexes book reviews. Also avail-able through IBIS as part of the Wilson Indexes in the Library's IO+ computer terminals (1983-).

This reference book looks at the rhetoric of candidates that both win and lose the U.S. Presidential election. It contains speeches, excerpts from personal diaries, letters and interviews to give the scholar and librarian perspective regarding presidential concession and victory speeches. Appendix I details political parties throughout history, Appendix II is a timeline of political parties from 1789-2000. Appendix III reveals popular and electoral votes by election year and candidate. There is an extensive bibliography and index.

From the introduction, “this book is meant for those who wish to deepen their understanding of the processes involved in conflicts and their knowledge of how to manage them constructively.” The types of conflicts discussed in this book are expressed in a variety of contexts such as politics, families, school, courts, and bedrooms. Each of the thirty-six chapters are divided into three sections: the introduction gives examples of conflicts and related questions, the second section looks at the implications for understanding these conflicts, and the third explores ways in which to educate and train people to help resolve such conflicts. Due to the ever-growing volume of quality research in the field of health communication, the authors of this work decided there was a need to create a 'comprehensive outlet that summarizes the research in the area.' The resulting volume is a six-part study in the field that includes thirty different chapters written by almost twice as many authors. Both author and subject indices are included.
