Issued monthly by the American Psychological Association and abstracts more than 35,000 journal articles each year. Arrangement in the print resource is by major subject categories. Areas of particular interest to social work include social processes and social issues (of which marriage and the family is a subcategory), physical and psychological disorders, and treatment and prevention (which includes as subcategories group and family therapy, community health services and mental health programs, counseling and social case work, and drug and alcohol rehabilitation). An expanded subject index is issued quarterly and cumulative author and subject indexes are published annually.

The database format is available for 1977-date. Published quarterly by the National Association of Social Workers. Around 450 journals are reviewed annually and each issue contains about 500 abstracts of journal articles. Cumulative author and subject indexes appear in the final annual issue. Formerly called Social Work Research and Abstracts, 1977-1993, and Abstracts for Social Workers, 1965-1976.
