About the Collection
The Psychology collection in the Education and Social Science Library supports the instruction and research of
the Department of Psychology. These resources include materials in the areas of
biological, clinical, developmental, experimental, personality/social, quantitative,
organizational, and individual psychology. This collection was originally organized in the
early 1900's and is considered to be one of the finest in the state and region. Current,
English- language books and journals in Psychology are housed in the Education and Social
Science Library. The majority of the estimated 120,000 volumes are located in the
Bookstacks of the Main Library at UIUC. In addition, the Susan Stout Memorial Library
within the Psychology Department houses a noncirculating collection of approximately 80
core psychology journals and a small collection of monographs. Peripheral psychology
resources may be found in the campus libraries, including Biology, Business and Economics,
Computer Science, and Labor/Industrial Relations.
