The Arms Control Collection consists of indexes, yearbooks, handbooks, bibliographies, monographs and serials dealing with arms control, disarmament, and international security. The collection does not represent all of the library's holdings on these subjects; additional materials on these subjects are present throughout libraries on campus, and the call numbers listed below will be applicable. The materials in the Arms Control collection, however, are the most comprehensive and specialized. With the exception of some indexes listed here all items are located in the Arms Control Collection (behind the Reference and Reserve Collections), in the Education and Social Science Library, 100 Library.

- Talking Terrorism: A Dictionary of the Loaded Language of Political Violence. 2003. The language of terrorism is fraught with doublespeak, both on the part of those who commit acts of terror and those who fight them. With this dictionary, Herbst aims to discuss "how language defines and deforms political reality, and its implications." Coverage includes "words used to characterize individuals, groups, or countries that commit or support acts of political violence," as well as "the related language that conveys the justifications and agendas of those involved with violence." More a collection of articles on particular words than a true dictionary, this volume contains 150 main entries, with an average length of about one page per entry, with broader topics (like "Revolution" or "Zionism") receiving multi-page treatment. Entries cover definitions and etymology, and focus on the social and political contexts of usage. There are also numerous cross-reference entries. The back of the book includes a lengthy general bibliography and a combined name-subject index. Herbst notes that "this is not an exhaustive compilation, but one that is hoped to offer linguistic directions that will plunge readers into the deepest depths of the politics and ideologies of violence around the world."
