The Atlas of Canada

This interactive map of Canada allows for users to search for locations or select a variety of thematic atlases. This site is available in French and English.

 

The New National Atlas of the United States.  

This New National Atlas updates a large bound collection of paper maps that was published in 1970. Like its predecessor, this edition promotes greater national geographic awareness.  Unlike the previous Atlas, this version is largely digital.

USGS Maps and Aerial Photo Images Online

This site provides links  to selected USGS Business Partner Program (BP) and Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) partner sites where you may view USGS maps and aerial photo images from a Web browser.

 

United Nations Cartographic Section

The U.N. Cartographic Section establishes mapping standards and provides clearance for maps published under the UN imprint. This site currently has more than 100 general maps in PDF format.  In addition, the site has deployment maps showing the areas that have active UN peacekeeping missions.

Gazetters=geographical index or dictionary  of place names

Geographic Names Information System (GNIS)

The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) contains information on almost 2 million  geographic features in the United States. The database describes geographical features and provides locational information on map features in the U.S. The GNIS is the official repository of  geographic names information.

 

GEONet Names Server

The GEOnet Names Server (GNS) provides access to the National Imagery and Mapping Agency's (NIMA) database of foreign geographic feature names.
