Now that you have found some sources for your research, you might be wondering how to locate the material in the University of Illinois Library (UIUC). Finding the documents can be tricky, so here are some guidelines to follow. In addition, the Government Documents library website offers important additional information on formats and locations of UN documents, and on the shelving and filing sequence of UN documents at UIUC.

When you find an item of interest, write down the UN symbol and the title, year, and document type. This information is listed in each individual record. NOTE: Since masthead documents and Official Records are not in the Illinet Online catalog, this information is essential for locating UN materials in our library. If you do not have the document's symbol, date, and type handy, you will probably have to go back to AccessUN to get it. |
If you are looking for a masthead document or Official Record from 1982 onward…
UIUC has all microfiche for non-copyrighted masthead documents, and Official Records from 1982 to present. You can find these microfiche in the Government Documents Library, located at the south end of room 200 in the University of Illinois Library.
Some print copies of masthead documents and Official Records are available in different locations within the library.
If you are looking for a masthead document or Official Record before 1982…
The University of Illinois Library has non-copyrighted masthead documents and Official Records before 1982 on microcard on the Deck 8 East in the Main Stacks in small red boxes. Though UIUC does not own a machine that can copy them, there is a machine to view them: a Readex Microprint OPAQUE VIEWER model 7.
Keep in mind that print copies of pre-1982 masthead documents and Official Records are also available in different locations within the library.
If you are looking for sales items, periodicals, or other materials…
These items are listed in Illinet Online if UIUC owns them, and you can search for them there to find their location within the library.
If you can not seem to figure out where to find a particular source…
Please do not hesitate to ask librarians in Government Documents or at the Reference or Information Desks for assistance.
