    The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) collects and evaluates thousands of health statistics to measure progress toward state and national health objectives. These numbers also provide the basis for developing and implementing public health strategies for disease prevention and health promotion.     The investigative arm of Congress, the GAO is under the control and direction of U.S. Comptroller General who is appointed by the U.S. President. GAO audits the use of public funds, evaluates federal programs and activities, provides legal services and investigations, and provides analyses, options, recommendations, and other assistance to help the Congress make effective oversight, policy, and funding decisions.
