Index volume contains a subject index and indexes by geographic, economic, and demographic categories. This is an excellent source of CROSS-SECTIONAL data, containing a wide variety of diverse information on demographic, economic and social topics, such as vital statistics and health, government and elections, and crime, law enforcement and the courts. For example, in the communications, energy, and transportation category, individual state data is given for energy consumption, consumption by source of production (coal, petroleum, nuclear, etc.), end use sector, # of nuclear plants, etc. The publication also includes 54 tables of comparative state rankings. If you need earlier data for certain variables, examine the previous editions of the Almanac in the SRI microfiche collection.
