This source contains a wide range of historical statistics
for the United States. Economic, political, social and demographic data
are given. Many tables correspond with tables in the Statistical Abstract
of the United States (see above) where data for years after 1970 can
be found. Excellent source for TIME SERIES data. Pre-1970 volumes of the
Statistical Abstract of the United States have additional and more
detailed historical data tables, so be sure to check these if the specific
variables you need are not in the 2-volume historical set.

Homepage includes "population" and "economic" sections;
the "population" section includes current population numbers, selected
current population subject reports (often in pdf file format), and historical
data for selected tables (some in spreadsheet format). Includes the 1990
Census. The "economic" section includes selected data from the economic
censuses.

Provides data on state finances, state services such
as education, transportation and welfare, and state economics and natural
resources for all of the 50 states. A useful source for CROSS-SECTIONAL
statistics.
5) States in Profile: The State Policy Reference Book

biennial. 1992 is last volume.

For the 50 states, this source has over 250 tables covering
demography, economics, finances, federal funds, taxes, spending and employment,
education, social services, health, crime and law enforcement, transportation,

technology. Comprehensive source for CROSS-SECTIONAL data.
6) Congressional Quarterly CQ's State Fact Finder.

This source contains subjects rankings by state for population,
economic, geographic, governmental, tax, revenue and financial, educational,
health, crime and law enforcement, transportation and welfare across states.
Includes a section which shows how the each state ranks ordinally for each

United States as a whole. Appendix B includes statistics relating to income,
employment, and production. The data includes GNP, interest rates, inflation
rates, money stock, composite stock prices and yields, and some important
international statistics.

of employment, unemployment and earnings, indicators of international finance
and trade, and indicators of government influence. Lists sources for current
and historical data. May also be useful in the selection of variables.
