Information about the Main Library Bookstacks for Users with Disabilities:

Accessible Online Catalog Terminals in the Bookstacks

Wheelchair accessible online catalog workstations in the Bookstacks are located on the 5th and 6th decks in the East Stacks and on the 5th deck in the West Stacks. Although staff are not readily available in these areas, assistance can be obtained at the Central circulation Desk.

Wheelchair Entrance/Exit for the Bookstacks

Users in wheelchairs can enter and exit the Bookstacks through a special gate near the turnstile entrance.

Photocopying

Self-service copy machines are located on decks 4, 5, and 6 East and on decks 5 and 8 West. Copy cards for use in university copiers can be purchased from vend-a-card machines located near the Central Circulation Desk, in the Undergraduate Library, and in various other locations listed on the machines. Also, a photocopying service for library users is offered by the Library Graphic Services located in the Undergraduate Library. Staff at the Central Circulation Desk are also available to assist users with disabilities to photocopy materials if necessary. Please ask.

Elevators

Elevators in the Bookstacks are equipped with floor number panels in Braille. Floor number panels and alarm bells in the elevators in the 5th addition (East Stacks, yellow Elevators) and in the West Stacks are positioned at a wheelchair accessible height.

Accessible Restrooms

Wheelchair accessible restrooms in the Stacks are located near the twin yellow elevators approximately halfway into the Bookstacks on each floor.

Emergency Procedures

A brochure which details emergency procedures for users with disabilities in the event of fire, weather emergencies, or power outages is available in Room 203 Main Library.
