WHO? Most UIUC affiliated borrowers are eligible to initiate their own requests for materials via the online catalog. In placing requests via the UIUC Online Library Catalog, UIUC borrowers can select a convenient pick-up location or specify that the item be delivered via campus mail to a campus office address. Courtesy card borrowers, with the exception of Local BUO (LB), Local High Privilege (LH), and Local Low Privilege (LL), can place requests for UIUC and I-Share library materials. Local BUO (LB), Local High Privilege (LH), and Local Low Privilege (LL) can only place requests for materials owned by the UIUC Library.
HOW DOES IT WORK? Each evening, the online request system processes all requests placed via the online catalog that day. The system first will look for an available copy at UIUC. If UIUC does not own the title, or if our copy is checked out, the system will look for available copies elsewhere among the 65 I-Share libraries in the state who share our online catalog. If an available copy is located that evening, it is tagged to fill your request, and you will be notified by e-mail or mail that the item is being held for you. If an available copy is not located that evening, the system will continue to try to fill your request until your request expires (usually within 30 days unless you specify otherwise.) Materials not available through the online catalog, including copies of journal articles (most libraries will not loan their journals) can be obtained through the Interlibrary Borrowing Office, Room 104A Library.
