Introduction
In order to log into CA on CD from an office or another remote location, it is necessary to install the program. The program can be installed on either Windows 95, Windows NT, or Macintosh systems.
Windows 95 or NT Version
- Log the machine into any Windows NT domain on campus. If you can’t see many domains under Network Neighborhood, it probably means your machine isn’t looking at the campus WINservers 128.174.5.30 and 128.174.36.251. Check that these are identified in the Network Control Panel.
- To install the client, choose "Run..." from the Start menu and enter the following: \\chemabs\chemabsw\netuser.exe
- It will ask a couple of questions and then will create the icons in a Program Group called "CA on CD."
- To run the application, click on the "CA on CD" icon. Select the database you wish to search. It will then take a few minutes to open the database and check that a license is available.
- Remember to QUIT CA when you are finished.
Macintosh Version
Mapping the Volumes:
- In the Chooser, select "Appleshare" and then select the "Library" zone below. The server called "CHEMABS" should appear on the right. Select it.
- Connect to the server as a Guest. You will see two items: "CA-Data" and "Chemical Abstracts."
- If you intend to use this software often, click the checkboxes to indicate you want to attach to these drives on startup.
- With the shift key held down, highlight each of the two volumes by clicking on each of them once. Select OK so that they both appear on the desktop.
- Close the chooser.
Installation:
- Open the "Chemical Abstracts" Folder on the desktop.
- Run the program called "Network User Installer" and follow its instructions.
Running the Application:
- Open the "Chemical Abstracts" Folder. Run the program "CA on CD." Select the database you wish to search. It will take a few seconds to open the database and check that a license is available.
- Remember to QUIT CA when you are finished.
