When you enter the first screen of CA on CD, you are faced with five choices of databases to search. The following descriptions should help you select the best database for your research.

NOTE: It is not possible, as in some other databases, to rerun searches between databases. You can switch databases at any time in the course of your research by going to the "File" menu at the top of your screen and selecting "Database." However, if you do this, all unsaved searches will be lost.

CA on CD 2002

Contains abstracts for articles included in Chemical Abstracts in 2002 only.
This means that the majority of the articles will be from late 2001 and early to mid 2002.

CA on CD 2001

Contains abstracts for articles included in Chemical Abstracts in 2001 only.
This means that the majority of the articles will be from late 2000 and early to mid 2001.

CA on CD 2000

Contains abstracts for articles included in Chemical Abstracts in 2000 only.
This means that the majority of the articles will be from late 1999 and early to mid 2000.

CA on CD 1999

Contains abstracts for articles included in Chemical Abstracts in 1999 only.
This means that the majority of the articles will be from late 1998 and early to mid 1999.

CA on CD 1998

Contains abstracts for articles included in Chemical Abstracts in 1998 only.
This means that the majority of the articles will be from late 1997 and early to mid 1998.

CA on CD 1997

Contains abstracts for articles included in Chemical Abstracts in 1997 only.
This means that the majority of the articles will be from late 1996 and early to mid 1997.

13CI on CD with Abstracts

  • Covers the years 1992-1996 of Chemical Abstracts
  • Provides CA accession numbers, CAS Registry Numbers, patent identification information, document types, keywords and keyword search capabilities, chemical names, and molecular formulae for all papers and chemicals included in Chemical Abstracts over this time period.
  • Bibliographic citations include title, authors, corporate sources or author affiliation, year, date, and place of publication, as well as publisher, ISSN, and title of source, language of article, and a complete abstract for most articles.

12CI on CD with Abstracts

  • Covers the years 1987-1991 of Chemical Abstracts.
  • Provides CA accession numbers, CAS Registry Numbers, patent identification information, document types, keywords and keyword search capabilities, chemical names, and molecular formulae for all papers and chemicals included in Chemical Abstracts over this time period. Bibliographic citations include title, abstract, authors, corporate sources or author affiliation, year, date, and place of publication, as well as publisher, ISSN, and title of source, language of article.
