Got Summer plans?
Well, technically Fall classes start August 22nd, but if you're looking for something interesting to do that first weekend (August 26th-29th), AdventureCon may just be your thing. Billed as "the biggest nostalgic computer-game event in North America," the convention will feature creators and enthusiasts of all things vintage gaming. The focus is on adventure games (the event takes place on the 30th anniversary of Zork), and speakers include "Scott Adams, designer of the groundbreaking text adventure Adventureland and Al Lowe, creator of Leisure Suit Larry."
And, it's in Las Vegas, so you know it will be fun.

Guinness to Release Videogame Edition
Gamers, the immortality you've sought is finally within reach - Guinness World Records is planning to release a new videogame only edition, covering everything from high scores on select games, to sales figures on titles and consoles, to the wacky and the weird that we've come to know and love from their main record book. So start training now - my vote is to fastest finish time for Contra, sans cheats.
"The Guinness World Records - Videogame Edition 2008 will be officially unveiled on stand D505 at the London Book Fair, which takes place between April 16 - 18."

Virtual Reality for Virtual Eternity
UIC and the University of Central Florida are combining on an interesting new project to use computer simulation and video game technology to create 3D simulations and "historical archives of people" that can be interacted with in real time. Investigators are looking at videotaping and recording contemporary campus folks initially, to see how this environment works for capturing institutional knowledge.
I think I saw this in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure...
