Gaming Night Recap and Pictures

Our Second Gaming Night was held on Saturday, October 21st. More than 80 people came, and over 40 entered the Guitar Hero and Dance Dance Revolution contests. Pictures from the night are posted here:

Also included are some pictures of gaming night guest Dmitri Williams, a researcher on communication and social interactions, specifically focusing on video games. Dmitri answered questions from the crowd on a variety of gaming topics, from female presence in the gaming industry, to difference in gaming culture in South Korea, legal cases and games, relationships of gaming and behavior, such as violent behavior, what Role Playing Games are and how players interact within them, and some discussion of new technologies and the evlolving gaming industry.

GSLIS Instructor Michelle Hinn Named Influential Gamer

"It is no secret that the video game industry has long been dominated by men: the majority of people working in the industry are men and they have traditionally developed games that appeal, by and large, to men.

But what about the women? Women play an ever-increasing role in the field and in September, the online magazine Next Generation published their list of the "Game Industry's 100 Most Influential Women." Among those honored was GSLIS instructor Michelle Hinn."

Gaming Night October 21st - Sign Up Now!

Undergraduate Library Fall 2006 Gaming Night

The Undergraduate Library will be hosting its 2nd Gaming Night on Saturday, October 21st from 7-10pm. Dmitri Williams, Assistant Professor in the Department of Speech Communications, will lead an informal talk beginning at 7pm on his research into the impact of new communications technologies, specifically in video games. There will also be a Dance Dance Revolution Tournament and a Guitar Hero tournament, with prizes for each. You can register online for the tournaments at: http://www.library.uiuc.edu/gaming/gameon/

Additionally, TVs and projectors will be set up all night long for everyone to come in and play games from the library’s collection, or bring in their own. So come on out for a fun night of gaming with your friends at the Undergraduate Library!
