I-Go, the Library Toolbar

I-Go, the Library Toolbar, is available for Internet Explorer and Mozilla FireFox users. The Toolbar provides quick access to several often used electronic Library and campus resources right at your fingertips whenever you are using your IE or MF browsers. No more typing in URLs, treading through bookmark directories and content, or trying to locate that ‘convenient’ place you put URLs which made sense at the time you placed them there but now cannot locate. The Toolbar takes you to all of the following:

• the Online Research Resources Web site

• campus phone book

• Google searching

• course reserves

• interlibrary loan

• My Library Account

• Online Reference Collection

• RefWorks

Discover

“Discover” is a program which allows linking of Library resources, such as electronic journal articles, within article and other Library databases, when they are available. [ Note: Subscription resources being accessed off campus will require UIUC affiliation confirmed by netid and password.] When you see a “Discover” link, you will have access to:

Full Text Services (when available):
• direct link to full text of the article in one or more sources
• link to a journal's home page or table of contents that will lead you to the full text of the article
• link to one or more databases that you may search for the full text of the article
• automatic search of UIUC'S online catalog, to see if the item is available in print.

Additional Services and Resources:
• Interlibrary loan request form
• link to RefWorks Direct Export Tool to download the citation
• Web search for related information in Google Scholar, with keywords from the citation title supplied.

RefWorks

RefWorks, like EndNotes, is a citation management tool which is supported by several bibliographic databases. There are numerous formatting possibilities. References with a bibliography can be placed into Word documents from RefWorks with its “Write and Cite” feature. EndNote libraries can be imported into RefWorks. All citations in RefWorks have a UIUC "Discover" link allowing you quick access to the e-version of journal articles available through our campus Library resources or, for those articles not available fulltext, an automatically filled out Interlibrary Loan request needing just a click to send.

You will first need to create an account which is very quick, and free (to UIUC affiliates). Then you will be able to access your account via the Web anywhere anytime using your subscriber login name and password. Note: If you are not using the campus network, you will need to use Your Subscriber Group Code which is provided when you register. For more information, including instructions go to http://www.library.uiuc.edu/refworks/. RefWork instruction sessions are planned during the Spring term.
