Thomas Register of American Manufacturers Includes a list of American manufacturers, their major products, and contact information. Useful for looking for competitors and their products. Print version is in BEL; the web version is free.
WWW Kompass Global directory of 2.2 million companies, 822,000 trade names, and 4.2 million executive names. Excellent source to look up addresses for international or small companies that are typically not covered in the general company information databases. Includes supplier listing for products and services. Brief profiles, emails, and even product catalogs are avaialable for some suppliers. More in-depth information or advanced features are subscriber-only.
UIUC Online Research Resources ProductScan Online database of new consumer packaged goods; includes images and often includes product pricing information.

Directory of Manufacturers' Sales Agencies. Compiled by Manufacturers Agents National Association (MANA). Divided into three sections: 1) alphabetical listing within states; each agency record contains key contact person, services offered, type of customers, general product description, number of sales people associated, and the territory covered; 2) products by territory: agency listing by products in a given state; 3) listing of Associate Members of MANA (non Regular Agent Member but subscribe to MANA's Code of Ethics).

SIC Code (Standard Industrial Classification Code) A government tool that helps label products and industries. Enter industry or product type (not brand name). You may have to follow the broader categories, especially for industry overviews.
NAICS (North American Industry Classification System) A more recent system designed to replace SIC. Conversion between NAICS codes and SIC codes is available here.
UIUC Online Research Resources OneSource An excellent one-stop place for company and market information. For companies, it has detailed descriptions, current financial data and news stories. For industries, it has market research reports, news, etc.

UIUC Online Research Resources Mergent Online Company profiles of 22,000 companies worldwide, including overview, subsidiaries, history, news, ten years of annual and quarterly financial statements and annual reports, bond information. UIUC Online Research Resources MarketLine (formerly Datamonitor) Contains profiles and analysis on global companies and industries.  Provides key facts, history, products/services, competitors, SWOT analyses, and locations of subsidiaries.
UIUC Online Research Resources Faulkner Advisory for Information Technology Studies (FAITS) Contains more than 1000 clearly written reports covering all of the most important technology areas: data networking, broadband, information security, electronic government, electronic business, the Internet, business intelligence/content management, IT asset management, application development, mobile business, and wireless communications. The database also includes software and hardware vendor directories for the profiles they cover.
UIUC Online Research Resources Corporate Affiliations Commonly known as “Who Owns Whom”, provides corporate linkage information on more than 170,000 of the most prominent parent companies and their affiliates, subsidiaries and divisions-down to the seventh level of corporate linkage. It includes major public and private businesses in the United States and throughout the world. Covers 1993-present on a 10-year rolling basis. Includes company overview, financial highlights (if available), personnel, Board of Directors, outside service firms, products, hierachy, and corporate structures.

Includes full-text online access to the Wall Street Journal.

EBSCO Business Source Complete (1984-current). Indexing and abstracts for scholarly business journals back as far as 1886 are included, in addition to the searchable cited references provided for more than 1,200 journals.
UIUC Online Research Resources LexisNexis Academic Universe Provides full text and abstracts of articles from newspapers, magazines, journals, wire services, trade journals, etc. Can search for specific industry news on over 25 industries.
UIUC Online Research Resources Press Display "Instant access to 500 newspapers from 70 countries in 37 languages." Includes a section for business news.
